Contrasting Narratives of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in Polish History Textbooks

The research critically evaluates ways of narrating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Polish secondary-school history textbooks. Based on a repeated critical reading and discourse analysis both Israeli Arab-Palestinian narratives, study focuses choice pro-Palestinian pro-Israeli designations when naming incorporation or silencing and/or voices textbook narratives. Reducing Palestinians to displaced population depicting Palestinian liberation movement as terrorism are some elements anti-Palestinian/pro-Israeli narrative. Israel status Zionist State presenting Zionism colonial examples found that although over-simplistic “aggressor-victim” format is not dominant, coverage most analyzed textbooks unbalanced, sometimes even misleading implying asymmetrical relations between Jews/Zionists Arabs/Palestinians.
